Was James Tobin calling Alicia Davis?

Mon Apr 10, 2006 at 11:19:14 PM PDT

Update [2006-4-11 3:15:39 by wanderindiana]:: as standingup points out in the comments, the number cited in the affadavits of the case was connected to Alicia Davis, not Matt Schlapp as I deduced incorrectly. That number was 202-456-6173. I'll be rewriting this and reposting at ePluribus Media's Community site in a little while.]

Update [2006-4-11 3:15:39 by wanderindiana]:: Skip to the comments for more information on Alicia Davis and her RNC phone calls (nice dig, 2lucky!) and for a 2002 WaPo article stating that she made weekly conference calls to a New Jersey Senatorial campaign (with Mehlman and Rove's full knowledge, an operation quoted as "ruthless" by an unnamed New Jersey Republican official).

Mitchell Wade's MZM > True Norte: Worth a look?

Fri Apr 07, 2006 at 12:40:37 PM PDT

It has been widely reported that in the wake of the Duke Cunningham scandal that what operated as MZM, Inc. now runs under the name Athena Innovative Solutions.

What I cannot find anywhere, however, is information on True Norte, Inc., reported as the new name of Wade's MZM, Inc. in Maryland, the District of Columbia, and Virginia.

I need help trying to make heads or tails of True Norte, Inc.

More details under the fold.

Dirk Kempthorne: Two Civil Judgments and a Lawsuit Defendant

Fri Mar 17, 2006 at 06:10:56 AM PDT

I have done some digging on Dirk Kempthorne (who apparently also goes by Kirk Kempthorne).

I've found two 2001 civil judgements against him, and a 1991 wrongful termination suit that went against him (in his capacity as mayor of Boise).

I've posted the details in comments on this thread at ePluribus Media.

What I'm asking for in this diary (hopefully not wasted) is help gathering details on these records. I have searched Nexis and Google for any news stories on the two civil judgments AND the 1991 lawsuit and cannot find anything yet. I don't know if I'm just using the wrong terms, or what, but I just can't find anything.

I need your help. Please check the records in my comments and help me verify them.

The Right Internet Company Tom Monaghan Keeps

Sun Mar 12, 2006 at 01:19:25 PM PDT

Cross-posted at ePluribus Media. This is a companion piece to Jeff Huber and Jerry Soucy's Understanding Pizza Tiger's Influence.

Some of the research into Tom Monaghan and Ave Maria that has been done by ePluribus Media has provided an interesting list of avemarialist.org's Internet "neighbors".

You might be surprised, you might not - but under the fold, we'll show you who's in Mr. Monaghan's Neighborhood. [UPDATE: I am sorry that in my haste to post this diary yesterday I neglected to credit those who contributed this information at ePluribus Investigates: highacidity, luaptifer, susie dow, and sawcielackey.]

Russia and Iran vis-a-vis US, UAE, and Oman

Tue Feb 28, 2006 at 05:12:58 AM PDT

An article posted yesterday at Tech Central Station by Heritage Foundation researcher Ariel Cohen caught my eye this morning, and raises many questions in my mind about Bush's motivations for his Free Trade Agreement deals with Oman (recently signed) and the UAE (pending).

In the article, Cohen talks of Russia's enabling of Iran via its reactor deals and the possible sale of ballistic missiles. The article leads with this:

Is Russia deliberately destabilizing the Middle East while benefiting from resulting higher energy prices? Sometimes it sure looks that way.

On March 6, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will visit Washington to discuss the Middle East. On March 3, a high ranking delegation of Hamas will visit Moscow at President Vladimir Putin's invitation to meet with Lavrov. A coincidence?

Russia is aggressively courting Iran and Hamas -- the two most destabilizing factors in the Middle East after Al Qaeda and Hizballah.

But the article boils down to one interesting statement:

WaPo: Experts Question Proposed FEMA Changes: Huh?

Wed Feb 15, 2006 at 03:43:03 AM PDT

Spencer S. Hsu reports in today's Washington Post:

James Jay Carafano of the Heritage Foundation agreed that the administration's preview Monday "doesn't really solve the problem," which is the ability to push help in the critical first 72 hours of a crisis and unify the government under one command. Both tasks are now beyond FEMA's power, he said.

I guess Mr. Hsu does not realize that Carafano is one of the principals behind the Heritage Foundation report that the Bush administration used to craft its new plans for FEMA?

Digging through the Enron Dirt

Tue Jan 31, 2006 at 09:59:55 PM PDT

For the better part of today, kfred and I over at ePluribus Media worked with other intrepid investigators on digging through databases full of old Enron email.

We received a tip by way of Moon of Alabama that there were some interesting connections evident in the email.

The work led by kfred resulted in ENRON FILES: Abramoff? Reed? Delay?? Yes. My own tack, remembering that GOPUSA board member Charlie Weldon was an Enron employee, resulted in Help Us Dig through Enron Email: GOPUSA.

A sample of our discoveries below the fold, but first, an invitation to come dig through the Enron dirt with us.

RANT: Why I Hate U.S. Television News

Fri Jan 20, 2006 at 05:37:17 AM PDT

I am so steamed this morning. Again, for the second day straight, we are being bombarded with images and video of Osama bin Laden on the basis of a "release" of an audio tape purported to have his voice on it.

WHAT A HUGE PILE OF BULLSHIT.

Don't step into it.

Harry Shearer's "Le Show" - "Gannon"

Mon Dec 12, 2005 at 07:44:44 AM PDT

As I was driving to work last night, I was listening to the Sunday night NPR lineup on WBEZ-FM in Chicago. I caught the tail end of "Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me", and then Harry Shearer's "Le Show" came on.

Well, Harry was doing a "year-in-review" show, playing bits that he'd done throughout the year. But as I don't get to hear "Le Show" every week, I was caught by surprise when he started talking about one of our favorite characters from 2005, James D. Guckert, or as we first knew him, Jeff Gannon.

House Joint Resolution 55

Tue Dec 06, 2005 at 10:56:00 AM PDT

Apparently, there's a push on today by outfits like MoveOn.org, True Majority Action, United for Peace and Justice, etc., to get Representatives to sign a discharge petition to bring H.J.Res. 55 to the floor of the House of Representatives for a vote.

H.J.Res. 55 would require President Bush to announce a plan for the withdrawal of all United States Armed Forces from Iraq by December 31, 2005.  Further, the measure would require the President to initiate such a withdrawal as soon as possible but not later than October 1, 2006.

This resolution has 62 co-sponsors and has been sitting in the House Armed Services and International Relations committees since it was introduced on June 16, 2005.

My own Congressman, Rep. Pete Visclosky (D, IN-01), had this to say on a request to sign a discharge petition, which would bypass the committee process and bring the resolution to a vote on the House floor:

Blogrolling at ePluribus Media

Thu Nov 24, 2005 at 07:24:02 AM PDT

Cross-posted at Booman Tribune, European Tribune, and the ePluribus Media Community.

In the spirit of the Thanksgiving holiday we are celebrating in the U.S. today, I am thinking about ways that those of us at ePluribus Media can give thanks to those of you who have supported our efforts throughout 2005.

One of the things we've been discussing behind the scenes is the creation of a blogroll. Many of you out there have been kind enough to give your support to us, and I (for one) would like to offer our supporters an opportunity to be recognized.

If you have a blog that you would like listed in a "Friends of ePluribus Media" blogroll, please post a link here in the comments.

The final decision on posting this blogroll will lie with the ePMedia Board of Directors, but I promise I'll put in a good word for all of you.

SCOTUS Nominees and Executive Privilege

Tue Oct 04, 2005 at 08:33:22 AM PDT

As I'm watching the Bush press conference this morning, I believe it was Bettina Gregory of ABC News who asked the president whether or not he would be releasing any records of Harriet Miers' legal work within his administration to Senators considering her nomination.

Of course, Bush's answer was a flat out "No." Gotta maintain Executive Privilege.

That's the first moment that I saw the connection between the Roberts nomination and the Miers nomination; they both have done work for a Republican White House, and their legal opinions are both going to end up hidden behind Executive Privilege.

Coincidence or plan?

Did R. David Paulison Get Firefighters for Bush Photo Ops?

Tue Sep 13, 2005 at 07:03:47 AM PDT

Most likely. He had a big hand in it, as he called out to the International Association of Fire Chiefs to send first responders to Atlanta to be trained in "Community Relations."

R. David Paulison, of course, is Bush's choice to replace Michael Brown as Director of FEMA. No wonder! It's because he gave him some firefighters to pose for photo ops.

FEMA has asked the International Association of Fire Chiefs and the Metro Section of the IAFC/NFPA to get this request for assistance from FEMA to the fire service to help FEMA respond to disaster recovery efforts.

[snip]

FEMA will accept the fire chief's certification on the application forms as the equivalent to a federal background check on the individual team members. Jurisdictions will be reimbursed for the teams and teams will be provided brief initial training in Atlanta as Community Relations Response Teams to prepare them to assist the citizens in the disaster area.

For details, please read the message below from the Chief R. David Paulison, U.S. Fire Administrator.

This shit needs to hit the fan.

9/11 SBA Loan Program Abused

Sun Sep 11, 2005 at 07:41:15 AM PDT

In my local newspaper today (the Northwest Indiana Times) there is a column about all of the area businesses who received loans from the Small Business Administration under a program designed to help small businesses who had been hurt by the 9/11 attacks.

In order to make sure the Cedar Lake Dairy Queen was made safe from the evil machinations of al-Qaida, the government loaned them $284,000 in 2002.
That is one heck of a lot of Mr. Mistys.

The funds were made available to the SBA by way of the Supplemental Terrorist Activity Relief Act, part of the Defense Appropriations Act signed by President Bush on January 10, 2002.

More under the fold.

BREAKING: Bush Nominates Roberts to be Chief Justice

Mon Sep 05, 2005 at 04:50:53 AM PDT

NBC's Kelly O'Donnell is reporting that Bush will nominate John Roberts to be Chief Justice. They just broke in on the local Chicago news with a Special Report.

I imagine that there will be some time added to hearings because of this development.

I cannot believe that Roberts would be a good Chief Justice given his record.

Nothing more to add.

[UPDATE: 6:50 a.m. CDT] CNN reporting that Bush to make announcement from White House at 7:00 a.m. CDT.

Tell the ONE campaign to Dump Pat Robertson

Wed Aug 24, 2005 at 09:11:12 AM PDT

While I've supported some of the efforts of the ONE campaign in the past, it has always bothered me that Pat Robertson was connected with this organization (his face appears, starkly, amongst celebrities in their television commercial).

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Now would be an ideal time to contact the ONE campaign: remind them about Pat Robertson's call to assassinate Venezuela's president, Hugo Chavez, and let them know in no uncertain terms that they need to dump Pat Robertson.

Senate Evacuation / Airspace Violation: Timing?

Thu Jun 30, 2005 at 06:06:01 AM PDT

Yesterday, as Kos has reported in his front page post, the U.S. Senate passed by a vote of 57-40 a provision that will allow the EPA to continue testing pesticides on humans -- including pregnant women and infants.

Yet what do we see reported in the news today? Senate evacuated! Airspace violation! Jets scrambled!

Do you remember when this happened on May 11th of this year? Right after Tom Ridge made disparaging comments about the DHS color-coded alert system? Keep reading.

Torture Airlines: The CIA and their Front Companies

Tue May 31, 2005 at 01:40:06 PM PDT

Cross-posted from Booman Tribune.

Today's New York Times has an article, "CIA Expanding Terror Battle Under Guise of Charter Flights, that does a pretty good job of identifying the ever-growing circle of CIA front companies and aircraft toting individuals around the world for interrogation and detention.

The graphic representation in the link above identifies a double layer of operating companies and a few of the individuals that the companies have in common.

What I want to do here is provide a place for any further identification of facts about these people and these companies.
